This approach encouraged experimentation and moving beyond conventional methods often seen in professional contexts, where solutions are sometimes shaped by internal perspectives or established frameworks. By focusing on real-world contexts and needs, I explored alternative modes of expression through participatory projects that emphasised human-centred design and new forms of immersive storytelling.
In collaboration with the local not-for-profit project Hackney Roots, as well as social enterprises, cooperatives, and other local actors, these projects encouraged communities to take an active role in the creative process. For example, The Re:Generation Project, a festival of collective action, and Africa Week, a cultural festival, were both curated by participants, with everyone invited to contribute events. Alongside this, I facilitated painting workshops where participants created artworks to be showcased during live music events.
Operating as a social enterprise, it was founded with the awareness that the business world often leads to unnatural behaviour, and that greater alignment with our passions and values benefits employees, businesses, and communities alike. As part of the Hackney Social Enterprise Partnership, advising Hackney Council, the organisation has provided consultancy services supporting community collaborations designed to inspire, offer opportunities, and support individuals interested in alternative business models and activities.
